Claude’s own interface, inside the side panel
Sideview displays Claude’s website beside the tab you are browsing. In Sideview 1.1.0, Claude uses its full interface, including the history and project tools available to your Claude account. Sideview does not provide a separate Claude model or an API-based chat interface.
This is useful when you want to keep a draft, reference page or documentation visible while discussing it with Claude. Moving between browser tabs keeps the same Sideview conversations open.
Set up Claude in Chrome
- Install Sideview from the Chrome Web Store in a current desktop Chrome browser.
- Open the panel from the toolbar, or press Alt + Shift + S.
- Click the arrow beside + and choose Claude.
- Sign in to your existing Claude account if prompted. A sign-in flow may open a normal tab or a popup; finish it there, then return to Sideview.
You do not need to create a Sideview account or enter an API key to use the free Claude sidebar. Your Claude account determines which models, projects and usage limits are available.
Keep different Claude conversations in their own tabs
With Claude selected, the + button opens another Claude chat. Keep one for a draft and another for reference questions, or put a Claude chat next to ChatGPT or Gemini in the Sideview tab strip. Each tab is a separate conversation; Sideview does not merge their histories.
Drag the tabs into order. General settings control whether Sideview remembers chat addresses and titles and when idle tabs sleep. Closing the last chat opens Sideview’s home view, where you can start fresh or reopen the most recently closed chat during that browser session.
Ask Claude about the current page with Pro
The free sidebar keeps Claude available while you browse. With Sideview Pro, you can send page text or selected text to the chat, use right-click Summarize, Explain and Translate actions, or attach a screenshot when your Claude account supports images. These tools run when you request them.
Sideview Pro also includes saved prompts and conversation export. It is a separate subscription and does not include a Claude subscription. Read the permissions explanation for how page and screenshot access works.
When Claude needs a reload
If Claude shows a blank page or an unexpected sign-in screen, check it in a normal browser tab and choose ⋯ > Reload this chat. Providers can change their websites. Contact Sideview support with your browser and extension version if the issue continues.
